KAILUA-KONA — Big Island police have arrested a 31-year-old Puna man in connection with a reported shooting Monday evening in Puna.
Shortly after 5:30 p.m., Hawaii Police Department officers responded to a report of gunshots and a man screaming at a residence on 15th Avenue in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision.
The 41-year-old victim was transported by ambulance to Hilo Medical Center where he was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries. He remains hospitalized in stable condition, police said Wednesday.
Kamanaokaaina “Mana” Nakooka, who was wanted for questioning in connection with the case, was arrested Tuesday afternoon at a vacant lot on 18th Avenue in Hawaiian Paradise Park.
Detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigation Section are continuing to investigate the incident, which is classified as a first-degree terroristic threatening and assault.
